noisy village: here comes summer

It’s hot in Vermont. Two days ago on my morning walk just after dawn I was wearing mittens to keep my fingers warm around the dog’s lead in a crisp 41 degrees. Today we’ve doubled that and I’m keeping cool inside for now while the sun gets to work on the garden, the daisies, the cold river. It feels good and it feels like time – time to dance our way toward summer.

The older boys have 6 more days of school after today. Friday is a half-day and Monday is the school picnic, and next Friday we’ll make cookies and join them there for a graduation ceremony. The end of school doesn’t just mean the last days of second and seventh grades, but my last days as a mom with a little one at home. Granted, I will have three varying sized children at home with me 24/7 this summer and all that follow (bless it) – but a new phase is upon us. After 13 ½ years of always having a child under 5, I won’t anymore. He will join his brothers at their school in September and he couldn’t be more thrilled and eager and dare I say even slightly impatient about it. So next Thursday we’re going to Do it Up. We’re going to have a Mom-and-Osa day for the books. There will definitely be a stop at the café for a special drink, some play time and book browsing at the library, and I bet we’ll even take a bike ride. He can have the whole day because I will never get another one like it.

After that we’re headlong into summer, and today I’m taking a moment to dream up what that might look like. If I write my dream summer day rhythm and send it all to you I’m pretty sure I’ll be a little closer to making it happen. Is that manifestation? Will report back.
